I took my first Bikram Yoga class about 18 years ago. I signed up the very same day for a 30 day challenge and made it all the way through – 30 classes in 30 days. Of course it changed my life in so many ways – I found myself with a new job, new friends, learning new skills.  My jeans fit me better and I even felt taller.  But the most special thing that happened in that month was meeting my now husband!

Overall, I felt amazing. And then… I stopped doing the yoga and didn’t go back to another class for over 12 months.

Over the years, I built a love/hate relationship with Bikram yoga. I found every excuse in the book not to do yoga – I was too busy in my new job/relationship/life. I had an ache. I had a pain. Bikram Yoga was hard and hot and confronting. Bikram Yoga made me feel nauseous and dizzy. But I quickly realised that everything in life just seemed easier to deal with when I was practising the yoga consistently.

When you first start Bikram Yoga, you will notice the improvements in your strength and flexibility come quite quickly and many people practise this type of yoga just for the workout it gives them. The aches and pains start to disappear. The nausea and dizziness vanish as your body detoxifies itself. Then after a while, you start to see other changes in your life. You are interacting with your friends, family and colleagues differently. Solutions to situations that you have been agonising over suddenly become simple and clear.

Students tell me all the time how Bikram yoga is changing them for the better in all sorts of ways.. I guess after 18 years, I shouldn’t be surprised. Still to this day, I always find your stories heart-warming and inspiring. They fortify my belief in Bikram yoga as an activity for all types of people from all types of backgrounds and experiences. It is for all shapes and sizes, for all levels of ability, strength and flexibility.

So if trying Bikram yoga is a decision that you have been procrastinating over or if you have been avoiding the hot room for a while – NOW is the time!
